Maneater E3 Trailer (Lighting & Color Grading) (2019)

Tripwire collaborated with the awesome people at GameOn (https://gameon.studio/en/) to create Maneater's E3 2019 trailer. GameOn handled all animation performance capture, camera animation & composition, and sequencer assembly & FX. Tripwire handled FX refinement, lighting, color grading, shader refinement, and audio.

My time on the trailer was two weeks of in-engine lighting of 26 shots that were rendered out of UE4's sequencer at 4K (3840x2160) resolution. Area lights were used to get a higher-end look to the game content. All shots were colored in Davinci Resolve to create a boosted, pastel aesthetic. Reflections were full quality SSR and all lighting was fully dynamic (we didn't use raytracing).

Camera viewfinder FX by John Grello using Photoshop + Blender. Based on the interface of a Panasonic VariCam.
Additional FX and adjustments by Santiago Sanchez and Brad Weckman.
Audio by Mark Muraski and Andrew Dearing.

Image-based HDR cubemaps of real skies were used on the skylight to get nuanced reflections in the water surface and on reflective materials like the wet shark skin.

John Grello used Blender on the shot of Pete confronting the reality show cameraman. The RGB stripe pattern broke up the footage and the brightness range was compressed to make it feel like the LCD screen of an external monitor.
